Abdominal Etching

What is Abdominal Etching surgery?

Abdominal Etching, formally known as Liposculpture, is a Body Aesthetic surgery that aims to contour and showcase the abdominal muscles through strategically using Liposuction to remove the unwanted fat around the lower abdomen. Abdominal Etching creates a six pack through the at removal and is therefore dubbed the six pack surgery or the six pack liposuction surgery.

Why is Abdominal Etching performed?

Reaching aesthetic goals with only diet and exercise is hard and sometimes impossible. Diet and exercise have long been touted as the pillars of weight loss, bodybuilding, and athletic training. However, no matter how perfectly a diet and exercise regimen are executed, certain deposits of fat may prove to be resilient.

Fat around the lower abdomen, belly area, is one of the areas of the body that is most likely to keep small amounts of fat even with extensive weight loss. The type of fat on the lower abdomen is called Subcutaneous fat, which is used by the body to protect vital organs, prevent heat loss, and protect against any physical external stress. As this fat serves an important role for the body, subcutaneous fat is incredibly resistant to exercise and diet.

Abdominal Etching, also called six pack surgery, provides an easier and more accessible method to achieve a six pack.

What are the conditions for Abdominal Etching surgery?

The Abs Etching is recommended to patients who:

  • Are healthy enough to undergo general anesthesia.
  • Have a Body Mass Index, BMI, of below 30.
  • Have enough skin elasticity and fat around the lower abdomen.

What Are The Things To Be Considered Before Abdominal Etching?

Before Abdominal Etching, the patient should:

  • Be at the hospital a day before their surgery for the pre operative tests to be performed.
  • Stop smoking and consuming alcohol at least 2 weeks before the surgery to alleviate the risk of a blood clot.
  • Avoid medication containing aspirin or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) for two weeks before and after surgery. These medications may increase the risk of internal bleeding. Patients should confirm each medication and supplement they wish to take with their Patient Coordinator.
  • Stop taking Multivitamin supplements 7 days prior to the surgery, and if it contains vitamin K should not be used for 30 days following the surgery.
  • Stop taking oral contraceptives 30 days before the surgery.

Also, the patient's body will be examined and measured, and the surgeon might have photographs taken so that the patient can compare the appearance before and after the FDL Tummy Tuck surgery.

How is Abdominal Etching performed?

Abdominal Etching starts by anesthesia being administered to the patient. Then the surgeon makes incisions on the sides of the abdomen. The incisions are very small and easy to hide.

The surgeon then, with an artistic precision, starts applying liposuction around the abdominal muscles. The surgeon carefully sculpts each abdominal muscle one by one. Ancillary muscle groups may also be sculpted including the serratus muscle and the external oblique muscle. Fat deposits may also be taken from the sides overlying the oblique abdominal muscles to narrow the midsection. The incisions are then sealed with sutures. The surgery takes 2 to 3 hours to complete.

What are The Things To Be Considered After Abdominal Etching?

After the procedure, the patients are recommended to:

  • Wear an abdominal compression binder that is provided after surgery.
  • Avoid exercises that might put a strain on the abdominal muscles, such as crunches and planks.
  • Have a healthy diet as it will make the healing process faster.
  • Take their prescribed medication as instructed by their doctor.
  • Wear loose-fitting comfortable clothes.

Patients will most likely be able to resume most of their daily activities 2 weeks after the operation. Swelling will fully subside within 2 to 5 months and allow the full results of the Abdominal Etching to be visible.

The results of Abdominal Etching are permanent as long as there isn’t excess weight gain.

What Are The Risks of Abdominal Etching?

  • Nerve and blood vessel damage
  • Skin discoloration
  • Bumpy skin or irregular healing
