Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

What is Plastic Surgery?

Plastic surgery involves the reconstruction or alteration of the human body and is performed for two reasons: To restore a part of the body or to cosmetically improve the appearance. Booking Surgery performs both kinds of plastic surgery but puts an emphasis on cosmetic plastic surgery.

Aesthetic plastic surgeries provide more effective, immediate, and persistent results compared to non-surgical operations.

Cosmetic Plastic surgeries can increase a person’s quality of life through boosting their self-esteem and confidence.

What are the Types of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery?

Facial Aesthetics:

Facial aesthetic plastic surgery is performed to reshape the areas near the head and neck, including the nose, ears, chin, cheekbones and neckline. Facial aesthetic surgery usually aims to tighten portions of the skin.

Face Lift

Aims to fix wrinkles and sagging by lifting and tightening the deep facial tissues. Results in a more visually appealing and younger looking face.

Blepharoplasty

Also called an eyelid lift, aims to retighten droopy eyelids that occur due to the muscles that support the eyelids getting weaker by age.

Rhinoplasty

Also dubbed as nose job, aims to change the shape or size of the nose.

Lip Lift

Aims to plump and reshape the lip by the removal of a thin strip of skin just above the upper lip and by tightening the skin upward.

Neck Lift

Formally known as Platysmaplasty, aims to remove excess skin and tighten the neck.

Fillers

Biodegradable substances are injected into the face, filling lines and wrinkles, adding volume to lips or cheeks. Fillers are not permanent and usually last between 6 to 18 months.

Cat Eye Surgery

Formally called Canthoplasty, aims to move the corner of the eye up by tightening the tendon under the canthus.

Ear Correction

Otoplasty or ear surgery is a procedure indicated in patients who present an abnormal position of the ears for the rest of the head, repositioning the so-called "loop ears", very protruding ears that are surgically placed close to the head.

Buccal Fat Removal

Informally named Cheek Reduction, aims to create an appealing face that is less plumb by removing the buccal fat pad inside the mouth. Benefits include improved facial features, rejuvenated face shape, and defined cheeks.

Body Aesthetics:

Body aesthetics cover a range of surgeries that are some of the most popular plastic surgeries of today. Excess skin due to weight loss, or childbirth are the most common reasons to have a body aesthetic surgery.

Note that a mommy makeover is the combination of multiple plastic surgeries, including a tummy tuck.

Upper Body Lift

Also called a Back Bra-Line Lift, aims to remove the excess skin of the upper back that extends to the side of the chest. Is commonly performed in patients who have lost a large amount of weight.

Tummy Tuck

More formally called Abdominoplasty, involves removal of excess skin and firming of the area around the abdomen. Tummy tuck is perfect for loose and saggy skin caused by losing excess weight, childbirth, aging and genetic inclinations.

Booking Surgery offers 4 types of Tummy Tuck Surgery:

1) Mini Tummy Tuck: A few inches long incision is made along the lower abdomen. All surgical procedures are made through this single small incision.

2) Standard Tummy Tuck: A total of three incisions are made, one across the lower abdomen, one around the belly button and the final one connecting the previous two incisions. The underlying structures are revised through these three incisions and excess fat and tissue are removed.

3) Extended Tummy Tuck: An incision is made as in the Standard Tummy Tuck surgery, but the lower abdominal incisions are slightly larger in the Extended Abdominoplasty surgery. Incisions will extend along the sides of the hips and most probably around the patient's back.

4) Reverse Tummy Tuck: Reverse Abdominoplasty focuses on the upper abdomen. It is a mirror of the Full Tummy Tuck, which focuses on the lower abdominal area. Involves the removal of the loose skin from the region above the belly button.

FDL Tummy Tuck: Fleurs-de-Lys type abdominoplasty is similar to the standard abdominoplasty except that the excess skin in the upper abdomen is removed, leaving a vertical scar in the midline of the abdomen.

Thigh Lift:Also called Thighplasty, aims to smooth and reshape the upper thighs by removing the loose skin and fat, therefore achieving a firmer and more aesthetically pleasing thighs.

Arm Lift: More formally called Brachioplasty, aims to remove excess skin on the upper arm, therefore tightening and toning the upper arms and restoring a youthful contour.

Upper Body Lift: Upper body lift, or a bra-line lift, is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin of the upper back that extends to the side of the chest. It is commonly performed in patients who have lost a large amount of weight and have loose sagging skin.

Lower Body Lift: Same as a 360 Body Lift, aims to remove a belt of skin, subcutaneous fat and tissue in the abdomen, as well as skin in the waist and buttock areas, resulting in a smoother, more youthful body contour.

Butt Lift: The traditional butt lift aims to remove the excess fat and skin through an elliptical incision in the lower back extending from the sides of the hip. Also used to fix Gluteal Ptosis by getting the glutes back to their original position.

Brazilian Butt Lift: A Brazilian Butt Lift, commonly abbreviated to BBL, aims to improve the butt area to create a more voluminous and elevated appearance.Traditional silicone implants or fat from the patient’s own body is used to increase the volume.

Abdominal Etching: Also dubbed Six-pack Liposuction, aims to remove the stomach fat with artistic precision, allowing the patient’s abdominal muscles to become more apparent, sculpting a six-pack appearance overnight.

Although the healing process is unique to the patient, body aesthetics generally have a recovering period of 4 to 6 weeks. Heavy lifting and strenuous exercise should be avoided for the first 6 to 8 weeks. Generally after 2 weeks patients can return to their daily life. During the healing process, the patient must use their binders and garments regularly and as recommended.

Breast Aesthetics

Breast aesthetic operations are performed to eliminate undesired structures and deformities in the breast tissue and to give an aesthetically pleasing form to the breasts.

Breast Implants

Aims to increase the breast volume, generally after weight loss or pregnancy, by the usage of breast implants. Breast implants are placed under the breast tissue or chest muscles.

Breast Uplift

Aims to improve breast contour and correct the size of areola by removing the excess skin and reshaping the breast tissue. Nipples can be fixed as well with the Free Nipple Technique.

Breast Reduction

Aims to increase the quality of life by reducing the excess breast fat, skin and glandular tissue. Often helps with back pain.

Gynecomastia

Also dubbed male breast reduction, aims to create a flatter, firmer and more masculine chest in male patients by removing the excess fat and glandular tissue. Gynecomastia is treated in 3 ways:

  • Tissue Excision
  • Liposuction
  • Pull-through Technique

Average procedure time of Breast Aesthetic surgeries is 2 to 4 hours. Patients are advised to wear a special bra after surgery to help shape their breasts. The result can be seen in a few weeks when the swelling has reduced, but scars take up to 6 months to fully heal.

Vaginal Aesthetics

Vaginoplasty

Aims to correct the weakening of the support of the pelvic organs and the widening of the vagina, which is common after multiple childbirths, by reducing the muscles around the vagina. Alleviates uterine prolapse, urinary incontinence and low intensity sexual intercourse.

Labiaplasty

Aims to treat an enlarged, irregular or uneven Labia Minora by reshaping and reducing the large, irregular edges of the inner lips of the vagina.

A Labiaplasty can be performed in 4 ways;

  • De-epithelialization Technique
  • Linear (Trim) Technique
  • Wedge or ‘V’ Technique
  • Oval Technique

Vaginoplasty surgeries, on average, take 1 hour. Full recovery, on average, takes a month. It is important to comfortable loose-fitting underwear and avoid sexual intercourse for a few weeks post surgery.

Liposuction

Liposuction involves the surgical removal of excess fatty tissue, and is performed by inserting thin cannulas into small holes to remove the fat.

Vaser Liposuction, informally known as Vaser Lipo or Ultrasonic Liposculpture, uses ultrasound to break down fat deposits that are then removed

Laser Liposuction, informally known as Laser Lipolysis, is minimally invasive and differs from the traditional Liposuction by using a laser to melt away the fat under the skin.

Liposuction can be applied to the abdomen, sides and back of the waist, and the belly area. Fat removed by liposuction can then be inserted into different parts of the body, this is called a Fat Transfer and BBL is an example of Fat Transfer.

Liposuction is not a weight loss method and surgeons often refuse to perform Liposuction on patients that have a Body Mass Index, BMIm above 30.

What are Plastic Surgery Advantages?

Plastic surgeries have many advantages, both tangible and intangible:

  • Pain reduction: Many types of plastic surgery can relieve pain. Breast reduction surgery, for example, can greatly alleviate back pain.
  • Reduced skin irritation: Extra skin can lead to rashes, irritation, skin infections and chafing. Having a surgical procedure to remove excess skin will reduce that irritation.
  • Improved Breathing: Rhinoplasty is the most well-known plastic surgery procedure, and besides its aesthetic benefits, a rhinoplasty also solves breathing problems to a great extent.
  • Increase in self-esteem: Plastic surgery can increase happiness and self-esteem. One study showed that plastic surgery helps patients feel happier, less depressed, and less socially anxious. It also gives them a greater quality of life.

What are Plastic Surgery Disadvantages?

Plastic Surgeries have some drawbacks that can be relevant to any surgery in general:

  • Recovery Period: A total recovery and adjustment takes up to 6 months, and the intended visually appealing appearance will not be present right after surgery.
  • Limited Mobility: Patients will have to be moderate in their physical activity for the first few weeks following surgery to prevent complications.
  • Not choosing the right surgeon: While every plastic surgeon can perform almost every plastic procedure, they often specialize in a certain subfield of plastic surgery. A Patient Coordinator can provide more details on our surgeons’ subspecialties.
  • Unrealistic Expectations: Plastic Surgery has limitations and both your surgeon and patient coordinator will be upfront about it. Also remember that there is a months long recovery period before the final result can be observed.

What are the Risks of Plastic Surgery?

Plastic surgery is safer than most major surgery, but still has a few risks associated with it. These risks include but are not limited to:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Bruising
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis
  • Seroma
  • Complications related to Anesthesia
  • Paralysis
  • Stroke
  • Death

How to Choose a Plastic Surgeon?

In recent years Turkey has become a popular destination for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery due to the affordable rates, favorable location and high quality of service.

A strict vigilance is kept by the Turkish medical association on the certification and credentials of Turkish plastic surgeons.

The decision to have plastic surgery is a big decision and should not be taken lightly. Price and quality of the facility are not enough to have a preference as the most important aspect is finding the right surgeon. Most plastic surgeons, over time, specialize in a specific aspect of Aesthetic Surgery, such as Facial Aesthetics, Breast reconstruction, or Tummy Tuck surgery. The surgeon’s ratings, and number of procedures performed should also be considered before making a decision.

Booking Surgery works with multiple Plastic surgeons and a Patient Coordinator, depending on the patient’s needs and expectations, will recommend a Plastic surgeon. Each plastic surgeon’s reviews can be found on the Booking Surgery website, Trustpilot page, and Google Reviews page.

How is the recovery process of plastic surgery?

Plastic surgery types vary as does the recovery time. On average, the main recovery period takes 4 to 6 weeks. Provided post operative medication and procedures must be followed rigorously. During this period, strenuous activities and sports as well as smoking should be avoided. Visually, it takes approximately 6 months to get the full result of plastic surgeries.

Georgia Harley reviewed What an amazing experience

What an amazing experience. Like most, the idea of travelling to another country for a medical procedure was nerve wracking at first however, my amazing care co ordinator Sean was there every step of the way! I arrived on the 31st December and everything from my booking experience, hospital stay, pre op tests, gastric sleeve surgery , transport home and post op assistance has exceeded alp expectations. I am from the UK and all of the care far surpassed anything that I have recieved in the UK. Sean has also been there post me returning to the UK to check in and respond quickly to any post op questions that I have had. Would 100% reccomend

The staff in the hospital was very professional and the language translators have all been amazing and you needs and questions are met and answered with any problems

Had a bit of a mix up but this was easily fixed and my feedback taken onboard for future patients 😊 The hospital is immaculate with very friendly and caring staff. I was very well looked after before and after surgery. After surgery nurses would check on me every 1.5/2 hours and if I rang the bell they would come instantly. Translators were brilliant and the staff who didn’t speak much English was very good with google translate 😊 The care and the cleanliness at the hospital I went to Medistanbul was out of the world. Puts the UK hospitals to shame honestly! Had so many family & friends telling me don’t go abroad for surgery but it’s the best thing I ever done! My coordinator Rick Miller was so quick at responding, always kept me up to date and was very helpful throughout the whole process. My surgeon was Prof Dr Kagan Katar who was very professional, he came to see me before and after operation Also the transfer driver Orhan was amazing he was so helpful with our bags in the huge airport and sorted us out with wheelchairs Had a brilliant experience

customer reviewed Dr Ahmet - arm lift and Sr Emre - face, neck, eyes. First class

I had arm lift surgery with Dr Ahmet on 8 October 2024. David Turker was my co ordinator. From the collection at the airport to dropping be off ;I also had dental implant and my partner has a hair transplant) everything went smoothly. They’re organised and efficient. There are several interpreters and staff who work for Booking Surgery who are resident at different times in the ward of the hospitals. On 30/1/24 I returned to finish off my tooth implant and to have a deep plane facelift, a neck lift and upper eyelid blepharoplasty. Again everyone was fantastic. My only critique is the hospitals’ food, which, similar to UK is not great but I knew that prior to going and found out where the nearest shops were. I also ordered in pizza via the helpers and they got me stuff from the shop. They also got me a soft pillow as the pillow on my hospital bed the second time was like a boulder with wee pebbles in it LOL. But this is a minor thing and plenty of cheap pillows for sale nearby. I felt that my treatment in Istanbul was better than any I’d ever received in the UK and I’ve had over 5 operations in Scotland. The nurses in Turkey are so kind and compassionate. Any medication you need for any ancillary issues that arise is readily prescribed to you. The surgeons are lovely too and experienced and professional. I had Dr Emre Koçman for my face etc., ab older guy in his 60s with great experience. I’m not 10 days post op and pleased Ruth progress. I’m 65 and once healed I'm going to look 45. That wasn’t my aim but I’ll take it LOL ! Thank you booking surgery. You’re the best. Maxine
