What is Lower Body Lift surgery?

Lower Body Lift, synonymous with 360 Lower Body Lift and Belt Lipectomy, is a Body Aesthetic Surgery that aims to create a firm and toned appearance in the lower body, including the lower abdomen and the buttocks, through removing the excess skin and fat deposits around the lower body.

Why is Lower Body Lift performed?

Lower Body Lift is often appropriate for patients who have severe saggy skin on their lower body, which is often due to very rapid weight loss caused by Bariatric surgeries. But, patients who have any degree of excess skin on their lower body can be a candidate for 360 Lower Body Lift. 360 Lower Body Lift is an Aesthetic surgery and does not induce any weight loss other than weight of the excess skin removed.

What are the conditions for Lower Body Lift surgery?

Conditions for a Lower Body Lift include:

  • The patient should be eligible to undergo general anesthesia.
  • The patient should have excess skin sagging and excess fatty tissue in the lower body.
  • Patient’s Body Mass Index, BMI, should be below 30 and the patient should have a.

What Are The Things To Be Considered Before Lower Body Lift?

Before the surgery, the patient should:

  • Be at the hospital a day before their surgery for the pre operative tests to be performed.
  • Stop smoking and consuming alcohol at least 2 weeks before the surgery to alleviate the risk of a blood clot.
  • Avoid medication containing aspirin or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) for two weeks before and after surgery. These medications may increase the risk of internal bleeding. Patients should confirm each medication and supplement they wish to take with their Patient Coordinator.
  • Stop taking Multivitamin supplements 7 days prior to the surgery, and if it contains vitamin K should not be used for 30 days following the surgery.
  • Stop taking oral contraceptives 30 days before the surgery.

Also, the patient's body will be examined and measured, and the surgeon might have photographs taken so that the patient can compare the appearance before and after the Lower Body Lift surgery.

How is the Lower Body Lift performed?

At the start of the surgery, general anesthesia is administered. An incision that goes around the torso, forming a circle around the abdomen, is made. The excess skin and fat below the incision is removed and the remaining skin around the buttocks is tightened. Liposuction may also be performed at this time. Then a Tummy Tuck surgery or a Thigh Lift may be performed depending on the patient. The tightened skin is then set in place using sutures.

The surgery, on average, takes 3 hours but can take up to 7 hours depending on the additional operations performed.

What are The Things To Be Considered After Lower Body Lift?

After the Lower Body Lift surgery, the patient should:

  • Should stay at the hospital for the recommended duration of stay.
  • Avoid strenuous physical activities for at least 6 weeks following surgery.
  • Have a healthy diet as it will make the healing process faster.
  • Take their prescribed medication as instructed by their doctor.
  • Avoid putting pressure on the lower body.

The patient can usually return to work after 2 weeks, but should still take care to not physically strain themselves and to not put too much pressure on their lower body.

What Are The Risks of Lower Body Lift?

As with any other major surgery, there are some risks associated with Lower Body Lift. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Scarring
  • Pain
  • Pour wound healing
  • Seroma
  • Changes in skin sensation
  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Adverse Reaction to the anesthesia
  • Suboptimal aesthetic result, or possible asymmetry
