Post-Plastic Surgery Care: Tips for a Quick and Healthy Recovery

Undergoing plastic surgery is a significant step towards achieving your aesthetic goals, but the journey doesn't end once the surgery is completed. Proper post-operative care is crucial for ensuring a smooth recovery and optimal results. At Booking Surgery, we prioritize your well-being and recovery process. This comprehensive guide provides essential tips and insights for a quick and healthy recovery after plastic surgery.

Understanding the Importance of Post-Operative Care

Post-operative care is the period following your surgery during which your body heals and adjusts to the changes made during the procedure. Proper care can:

Minimize Complications: Reduce the risk of infections, excessive swelling, and other complications.
Enhance Results: Ensure the best possible outcome by allowing your body to heal correctly.
Speed Up Recovery: Help you return to your normal activities faster.

General Post-Operative Care Tips

Follow Your Surgeon’s Instructions: Your surgeon will provide specific instructions tailored to your procedure. Adhering to these guidelines is crucial for a successful recovery.
Rest and Relax: Give your body time to heal by getting plenty of rest. Avoid strenuous activities and ensure you have a comfortable recovery space at home.
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated, which aids in the healing process.
Healthy Diet: Eat a balanced diet rich in vitamins and proteins to support tissue repair and recovery.
Avoid Smoking and Alcohol: Smoking and alcohol can impede the healing process and increase the risk of complications.

Specific Care Tips for Common Procedures

Facelift

Head Elevation: Keep your head elevated to reduce swelling. Use extra pillows while sleeping.
Cold Compresses: Apply cold compresses to minimize bruising and swelling.
Gentle Face Wash: Clean your face gently with mild soap and water. Avoid scrubbing or rubbing the skin.

Breast Augmentation

Supportive Bra: Wear a surgical bra or a supportive sports bra as recommended by your surgeon.
Avoid Lifting: Refrain from lifting heavy objects or engaging in upper body exercises for at least six weeks.
Monitor for Infections: Watch for signs of infection such as redness, warmth, or unusual discharge around the incisions.

Liposuction

Compression Garments: Wear compression garments to help control swelling and support the new contours of your body.
Stay Mobile: Light walking can help improve circulation and reduce the risk of blood clots.
Hydration: Drink plenty of fluids to help flush out the anesthesia and medications from your system.

Rhinoplasty

Avoid Blowing Nose: Refrain from blowing your nose for the first few weeks post-surgery.
Nasal Saline Sprays: Use saline sprays to keep the nasal passages moist and aid in breathing.
Head Elevation: Similar to a facelift, keeping your head elevated helps reduce swelling and discomfort.

Common Concerns and How to Address Them

Swelling and Bruising

Swelling and bruising are normal after any surgery. To minimize these:

Cold Compresses: Use cold compresses during the first 48 hours.
Stay Elevated: Elevate the affected area as much as possible.
Hydration and Diet: Stay hydrated and eat anti-inflammatory foods such as leafy greens and berries.

Pain Management

Pain is a common post-operative symptom. To manage it effectively:

Medications: Take prescribed pain medications as directed by your surgeon.
Rest: Ensure ample rest to help your body heal and reduce pain levels.
Relaxation Techniques: Practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or meditation.

Infection Prevention

To prevent infections:

Hygiene: Keep the surgical area clean and dry.
Follow Instructions: Adhere strictly to your surgeon’s wound care instructions.
Monitor Symptoms: Be vigilant for signs of infection like increased redness, warmth, or discharge and contact your surgeon immediately if they occur.

Activity and Exercise

Gradually reintroduce physical activity:

Light Walking: Start with light walking to promote blood circulation.
Avoid Strain: Avoid any activities that strain the surgical area for the period specified by your surgeon.
Follow-Up Appointments: Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments to ensure your recovery is on track.

Emotional Well-Being

Recovering from surgery can be emotionally challenging. To support your emotional health:

Stay Connected: Maintain contact with friends and family for support.
Mental Health: Consider talking to a therapist if you experience anxiety or depression.
Celebrate Progress: Focus on the progress you’re making rather than the immediate post-surgery appearance.

Proper post-operative care is essential for achieving the best results from your plastic surgery and ensuring a smooth and quick recovery. At Booking Surgery, we are committed to supporting you through every step of your recovery journey. Georgia Harley reviewed What an amazing experience

What an amazing experience. Like most, the idea of travelling to another country for a medical procedure was nerve wracking at first however, my amazing care co ordinator Sean was there every step of the way! I arrived on the 31st December and everything from my booking experience, hospital stay, pre op tests, gastric sleeve surgery , transport home and post op assistance has exceeded alp expectations. I am from the UK and all of the care far surpassed anything that I have recieved in the UK. Sean has also been there post me returning to the UK to check in and respond quickly to any post op questions that I have had. Would 100% reccomend

The staff in the hospital was very professional and the language translators have all been amazing and you needs and questions are met and answered with any problems

Mellissa Heath reviewed Had a bit of a mix up but this was…

Had a bit of a mix up but this was easily fixed and my feedback taken onboard for future patients 😊 The hospital is immaculate with very friendly and caring staff. I was very well looked after before and after surgery. After surgery nurses would check on me every 1.5/2 hours and if I rang the bell they would come instantly. Translators were brilliant and the staff who didn’t speak much English was very good with google translate 😊 The care and the cleanliness at the hospital I went to Medistanbul was out of the world. Puts the UK hospitals to shame honestly! Had so many family & friends telling me don’t go abroad for surgery but it’s the best thing I ever done! My coordinator Rick Miller was so quick at responding, always kept me up to date and was very helpful throughout the whole process. My surgeon was Prof Dr Kagan Katar who was very professional, he came to see me before and after operation Also the transfer driver Orhan was amazing he was so helpful with our bags in the huge airport and sorted us out with wheelchairs Had a brilliant experience

customer reviewed Dr Ahmet - arm lift and Sr Emre - face, neck, eyes. First class

I had arm lift surgery with Dr Ahmet on 8 October 2024. David Turker was my co ordinator. From the collection at the airport to dropping be off ;I also had dental implant and my partner has a hair transplant) everything went smoothly. They’re organised and efficient. There are several interpreters and staff who work for Booking Surgery who are resident at different times in the ward of the hospitals. On 30/1/24 I returned to finish off my tooth implant and to have a deep plane facelift, a neck lift and upper eyelid blepharoplasty. Again everyone was fantastic. My only critique is the hospitals’ food, which, similar to UK is not great but I knew that prior to going and found out where the nearest shops were. I also ordered in pizza via the helpers and they got me stuff from the shop. They also got me a soft pillow as the pillow on my hospital bed the second time was like a boulder with wee pebbles in it LOL. But this is a minor thing and plenty of cheap pillows for sale nearby. I felt that my treatment in Istanbul was better than any I’d ever received in the UK and I’ve had over 5 operations in Scotland. The nurses in Turkey are so kind and compassionate. Any medication you need for any ancillary issues that arise is readily prescribed to you. The surgeons are lovely too and experienced and professional. I had Dr Emre Koçman for my face etc., ab older guy in his 60s with great experience. I’m not 10 days post op and pleased Ruth progress. I’m 65 and once healed I'm going to look 45. That wasn’t my aim but I’ll take it LOL ! Thank you booking surgery. You’re the best. Maxine
