Hair Transplantation

How is Hair Transplantation Done?

Hair transplantation is a cosmetic procedure that aims to restore the hair of the patient through moving healthy hair follicles, also known as grafts, to the thinning or bald areas of the head. This procedure is used to treat genetic, hormonal hair loss or hair loss due to an injury or any other condition. Hair transplantation can also be utilized to restore eyelashes or the beard. If the patient does not have a sufficient amount of healthy hair on the back of the head, the arms or the chest may be used as the donor area.

Hair transfer is able to restore the hair, therefore creating a youthful appearance and boosting self-confidence.

Hair Transplantation by Fue Method

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a method of Hair Transplantation that has recently become popular over the Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) method. The FUE method starts by the healthy hair follicles being extracted through small punch incisions one by one from the donor area, which is usually the back and the sides of the head but can be arms or the chest as well.

The follicles are then implanted into the target area, where the hair is thinning or balding, through small holes. The transferred grafts continue growing in the target area, creating new hair. It is expected that 10% - 80% of the transplanted hair follicles will grow back.

The FUE method, unlike the FUT method, doesn’t utilize sutures, doesn’t leave scars, has less risks, has a shorter healing period, and has minimal side effects.

The FUE method is recommended to patients that have thinning hair or are balding, but still have sufficient healthy hair follicles to be transferred. A Hair Transplantation is not recommended to patients who suffer from AIDS or from chronic health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol.

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) involves the removal of a linear strip of hair from the donor area including the scalp, and then implementing it into the recipient area. The FUT method results in scarring and numbness of the implemented area, as well as a slower recovery time.

Hair Transplant Process

Patients are greeted by the Booking Surgery staff right after leaving the airport and are brought to the hospital by Booking Surgery’s transport team. After the patient is checked in, their pre-op testing, including the necessary blood work, are performed. The patient is supervised during the day of the arrival and the hair transplantation procedure is performed the next day, the morning after the arrival. The procedure, in total, may take up to 9 hours. There are breaks in between the procedures. After the procedure, the patient will be supplied with a special lotion and shampoo as well as postoperative prescription medicine, and will be instructed regarding the recommended post operative care.

On the last day of the stay, the first hair wash after the surgery is performed and additional supporting treatments are provided.

The patient is then driven to the airport after their attending doctor clears them to fly.

The Basic Stages of Hair Transplantation

Before the Hair Transplant procedure the attending doctor does a consultation with the patient. The patient’s donor and the target areas are evaluated and the most viable hairline as well as grafts to be transplanted are determined. Pre-op tests are performed and evaluated to determine the eligibility for the surgery. The patient’s hair is then shaved.

Local anesthesia is administered and the Hair Transplant Specialist then uses a special tool to remove the grafts from the donor area. Once a sufficient number of grafts are extracted, they're placed in a plasma solution for temporary storage.

The Hair Transplant Specialist makes incisions on the target area, and the hair grafts are then transplanted to the target area. After the Hair Transplant is finished, both the donor and the target areas are cleaned and bandaged.

Patients will be prescribed medication, and will be supplied with a special lotion and shampoo. It is important to take care of the donor and target areas after the operation for a speedy recovery.

Eloise Catmur reviewed The most amazing experience

I had surgery 4/7/24 and I'm currently5 months post op. I've lost almost 7stone and feel like a completely different person. The surgery itself has been absolutely incredible - but more than that - booking surgery have been amazing throughout. I booked months in advance and my coordinator was on hand for any questions through those months that popped into my head with a speedy reply. There was a WhatsApp group for everyone having surgery the same month so we could all discuss our worries/excitement etc. the booking was made really safe and quick with no hiccups. Now, post surgery, my coordinator is still there if I have any questions or concerns, I have a dietician on call for the first year and still the WhatsApp group with the people who had it done in July that we use daily to chat, send food ideas and send our progress pictures! I have nothing negative to say about the company at all and would recommend them to anyone. My coordinator was David Turker and he's gone above and beyond for me with regards to any questions, worries, advice etc ! Thanks for everything guys, you've changed my life!

From arriving at the hospital to leaving I cannot fault this hospital or any of its staff. Everyone was so nice and on the ball with everything. Nothing was too much. I chose Dr Nebil for my surgeries after researching his previous work and talking to other patients of his. He was an absolute gent throughout!!! Made me feel at ease, answered any questions myself or my husband had. He came to see me everyday that I was in his care. I honestly cannot reccomend him and his staff enough. It was an absolute pleasure xxx

Naomi Shield reviewed Dr Yalcin: Plastic surgery: Medistanbul

I had plastic surgery recently with Dr Yalcin and his wonderful team at Medistanbul. My lovely co-ordinator Karen was on hand for reassurance throughout the whole process from booking to post op care. She replied quickly and put me at ease when feeling anxious. The hospital (Medistanbul) was clean and modern however, I do have a little bit of constructive feedback regarding the hospital. 1.) Please get some new pillows as many of the pillows were like sleeping on golf balls. However when this was raised they did find me a more comfortable pillow. I did have to use a couple of the 'golf ball pillows' to prop myself up due to the fact I had extensive plastic surgery and needed 3 pilllows to even try and get comfortable. 2.) The sofa bed that my husband had to sleep on all week was extremely uncomfortable and stained. Once bedding was given this stain was covered so was not raised with the staff, however this sofa bed could do with upgrading.3.) The food is not great. (We do appreciate that it is hospital food) the variety is limited and it wasn't very warm. However, there is a little room with a kettle and snacks and this did include cereal and I enjoyed cereal in the morning rather than the strange Turkish breakfast. The hospital is in a great location and is next door to a shopping mall with lots of takeaways. The translators are happy to help ordering takeaways if you are alone. The hospital was clean and the cleaners came in everyday to do the floors and bathroom and change beds. The little tea/snack room is a grea to have for patients and companions. The translators in the hospital were great and always on hand if needed and friendly. They also came in a couple of times a day to check everything was OK and made sure we had everything we needed. The nursing staff at Medistanbul were absolutely fantastic! They were very friendly and went above and beyond. Dr Yalcin is a incredible surgeon and extremely talented. He does not speak English but there was always a translator with him to make sure we understood each other. Dr Yalcin was honest and managed my expectations of what he could achieve with surgery after 13 stone weight loss. When I woke up it turned out that he went above and beyond my expectations. I really liked that he was honest and didn't get my hopes up though, this is the sign of a very good surgeon in my opinion. When I returned home my co-ordinator has been great at contacting Dr Yalcin with any worries and again there has always been a quick reply. Overall I have had a great experience the only criticisms being the hospital itself. Also I had a blood transfusion whilst in surgery and needed to pay extra for this (which I was aware of as its in the surgery documentation that was sent) however the process of getting hold of a receipt for the cash paid (to claim through insurance). Getting a receipt was a difficult process and not great when you are trying recover: this should be looked into so that a receipt is given as standard when any cash is paid. Thank you to everyone at Booking Surgery! I will see you all again when I return to finish off my surgery in March 2025.
